auto power off Wi-Fi

Hi. Every time I unlock the screen, I wait for the device to connect to the wifi network. Why does it always turn itself off?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 12

It does that when not plugged into an external power supply to conserve battery. If you have it plugged in, the WiFi connection remains on even when the screen is locked.

Because if it didn't, your battery would run flat in a matter of a few hours.
