Failed Verification Code

I'm attempting to set up a new phone and I can log and I get a verification code, but it keeps saying "verification failed, an unknown error occurred." after entering the code. I'm about to take this phone back, because I'm so frustrated. I can obviously log into account on laptop or I couldn't even ask this question. Any suggestions before I give up and return the thing?

I am unable to understand, return what? You cannot undo a verification code.


There are few scenarios where you may get "Verification Failed". Try resolving using the 4 possible options

  1. Whether you're actually connected to the internet (preferably WiFi)?
  2. Set time/date Automatically
  3. Try this:
    1. connect using strong and stable wifi
    2. From your Mac:
      1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
      2. Click Account Details.
      3. If your device is offline, click Get Verification Code. If your device is online, click Security > Get Verification Code.
    3. Enter the verification code in the device with the error
  4. Disable any VPN
