Transfer files from camera to external drive directly on iPad Mini?

How can I transfer files directly from an sd card or camera to an external drive using an iPad Mini (latest)? It uses lightning and I have to be able to connect both the camera or sd card and the external drive simultaneously since I don't want the files taking up my iPad storage. I want to take advantage of the fact that with the new iPad OS there is support for external drive and moving files.

thanks in advance

Good afternoon zdeca,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you would like to transfer files directly from an SD card or camera to an external drive without importing them to an iPad. This feature is currently not available. iPadOS has been announced but not released.

Import photos using Apple camera adapters

Current iPad Pro models can connect directly to a camera, but files are imported to the iPad Pro, not passed through to an external drive.

Charge and connect with the USB-C port on the new iPad Pro

Take care.
