cant add credit card to apple account

I have an old credit card listed on my apple account that I want to delete. I have a different card entered for Apple Pay. When I try to delete the old card I get a message that says Family Organizer requires at least one payment on file. When I try to add a card I get the message "One or more of your payment methods require verification." This seems like a Catch 22. I can't add a new card and I can't delete an old card. Also, why doesn't my Apple Pay card show up on my Apple account?

iPhone XR, iOS 12

Actually it’s kind of super easy to fix ! I was going through the same problem when I had just gotten my XS Max . It says something along the lines of, the first card can’t be removed because it has a pending subscription. What you actually have to use either the App, or the actual website, and accessing your billing account there. Once I did that I check my settings and it was all fixed ! Hope that helps !

Same issue. Just to give Apple or others more details, whether on the app or using the application I get a screen like this:

I can't verify the card as it was long ago replaced. So if I try to remove that card I get this message:

If I try to add a new card I get this message:

Anyway the fix for me was to turn off family sharing, restart iTunes, log in again, and then I could delete the old credit card, and then turn family sharing back on.

For me the 'organizer' is an old account that I've just kept (barely) alive for a while.

Anyhow, I ended up finding another way to change the credit card. How annoying! Mine was expired/lost so I couldn't get the right info, even if I could it would have been declined as not a valid card anymore.

So I created a new user account on my mac (most people prob wouldn't need to).

Then went to System Preferences -> iCloud -> Account Settings -> Payment, then added info for default, new, card.

This wiped out the old credit card info with the current info on all my devices. No more verification problems.

Took me a bit of time to solve, hope this helps someone.

The only way I was able to resolve this horrible development by Apple was to sign into this URL:

https://appleid.apple.com

That's appleid . apple .com

Even googling for this URL would not lead me to it (just support.apple pages). Very strange Google.

Updating this via your Apple Device will NOT work.

Updating this via iTunes on your Desktop will NOT work.

Updating your payment information in the Apple Store will also NOT work.

You can update it in the Store to buy something, (sure, they want your money), but it will NOT propagate to your appleid.

My guess is they are laying the groundwork for this "bug" so when they launch Apple-Card, you'll resort to setting it up as alternative payment-method to work around this when everyone's Credit Card is eventually Lost/Stolen/Expired.

For Shame!

Waste of mine (and everyone else's) time troubleshooting this so they can boost their Apple-Card enrollment numbers.
