I'm trying to add a second email to FaceTime so that me and my partner can chat to each other with the same Apple ID. When I try to do this it won't send the verification email, then says "error" next to the new email address. It then asks me to sign in with two step authentication, which I do, but this doesn't seem to change anything.
If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

Apple ID cannot be shared for FaceTime.
It's also not advisable to share Apple ID at all.
Each user should have their own Apple ID.

An AppleID cannot call itself, not with an alias nor any other way. FaceTime calls can only be made between different AppleIDs. Your daughter will have to have her own AppleID for the two of you to use FaceTime.
FaceTime itself is a wholly free service, so as long as your internet connection is free, it costs nothing.
