Downloaded uTorrent and also got Avast Security.

So just a few months ago I got my first Mac and I needed to download uTorrent. I really kind of skimmed everything through when accepting stuff (big mistake, I know) and when the file had downloaded I realised I not only had downloaded uTorrent but also Avast Security. I really got confused and scared as to what I should do. I know it's usually hard to download viruses on Macs but how can I make sure the program is safe? And if not then how do I uninstall it?

Uninstall Avast.

If you were using uTorrent to get Mac commercial Mac software, then be away that free copies of for pay software often comes with malware.

There are no self-propagating viruses in the wild for Macs, but if you are involved in the install, then you can get a few malware bits and more commonly adware. Malware - malicious. Adware - resource sucking to earn someone else money.

Please post the requested EtreCheck output, as that will help the volunteers figure out what is happening on your system. There is "NO" personal information included in the report.

You can also run MalwareBytes to see if you have any Adware.

And when you are finished checking (and cleaning) uninstall MalwareBytes

Follow the instructions provided by AVAST. Dragging AVAST to the trash will not uninstall it.

Loks pretty good, I see no trace of Avast, did you remove it already?

AVAST is not currently installed according to that report. Google seems to have released an update with poor permissions. This will be fixed in the next EtreCheck update in a few days. Otherwise, it looks fine.

I used EtreCheck to scan my laptop and this was the outcome.

One last thing: you really want to seriously consider getting rid of u-torrent, most will have additions to the “free” software which will infinitely be worse than actually paying for it.
