Gifting an app to yourself to get a redeem code to give to someone

Ok this might seem strange, but I would like to gift an app to someone by giving them a redeem code that is not delivered via email.

So...

Is it possible to gift the app to myself (I already own the app) and then when I receive the email, if I hit the link in the email it usually takes me toa redeem screen where one would enter the redeem code or scan a gift card -except the code is already filled in. What I would like to to is know if I can gift to myself and then copy the redeem code without redeeming it so that someone else can use the redeem code?

The intention is so that I can the give the person I would like to give the gift to the redeem code which they would then input manually in the redeem section of their AppStore.

Sorry that such a long description was required for such a simple question...lol

You should be able to (assuming you have a payment method on the account, you can't gift from an account's balance). You should be able to get the redemption code from within the email, possibly via right-clicking the redeem button it in and manually getting it from that (e.g. copying and pasting the URL and extracting the relevant part).

If what you mean is you want to send the gift to to your own email address, then that should be possible yes.

Gifts can be sent to any email address you want, including your own.

But why not just send the gift to the person's email address? why this roundabout way of doing it?

because I do not know the person's email address, as I am going to give the gift to one of my friends as a lucky dip -so the gift recipient isn't actually known and the redeem code will be printed in an envelope that they will open. It's just a nice way of do doing it smoothly.
