AirPods skipping

Has there been any update on the AirPods intermittently skipping. Any firmware updates that are supposed to help. Everywhere I look it's answers about resetting them which don't work for me or those I have read about and mostly there is the push to check bluetooth interference but much like the many people experiencing the same problem, the skipping happens anywhere and regardless of turning off all bluetooth devices and all the things one goes through to test. The skipping happens to me particularly when I'm connected to my MacBook Pro.

Wondering if there a fix coming or any real reason?
