Need to understand what causes vertical lines on iPad screen

If they’re lines that are always there - meaning both in and out of apps - then its possibly the ipad’s equivalent of a graphic’s card going bad.
Keep it backed up and make an appointment at your local apple store or authorized service provider.....that said, if this is an iPad 2, it’s just old enough that the cost of an out of warranty replacement would probably be better spent towards a newer model.
