Microphone will not work on Series 3 Watch after update

I have a series 3 watch and since I updated in a few months ago, I have not been able to get the microphone to work correctly. It could have been out prior to this, but I know it did not work after the software upgrage. I cannot use it for calls, dictation, or Siri. I took it to the Apple Store and the diagnostic test showed no issues. It will work if I use my Airpods connected to bluetooth. I have tried all the suggestions I can find and the Apple Tech reset it and paired it, but it is still not working. I am hesitant to spend $289 for repair as it doesn't appear from the many of the posts that the microphone is very reliable even with repair, it may only work for a short period of time again. Any ideas?

If you took the watch to a Genius Bar appointment it should have a service history on file. Your report that it passed diagnostics, and the tech paired it again but the mic still failed to work.... that just doesn’t stack up, because the problem would have been obvious to the tech, and it should have been resolved on the spot. I suggest you Contact Support as a complaint about the failed previous attempt.

You seem to have a misguided idea about reliability of the mic on Apple Watch. We see very few failure reports here, and it is likely the majority are resolved one way or another. I don’t remember seeing any reports of failures following repair - probably because Apple’s standard “repair” is a service exchange watch and the probability of two successive devices having the same uncommon fault is somewhere the negative side of zero.

There are many failure reports when you do a search of microphone failure. If you will do a search you will see that several people have the problem, even after being given a new watch. One was within a month. So there goes the negative side of zero probability.

Apparently the problem wasn't so obvious to the tech, because he told me the diagnostic was fine on it and he didn't know what was wrong. The only solution was to send it for repair to see if it was something that diagnostic was not checking.

Well I certainly didn’t come here for some snarky hateful response from someone that is Offering no real solution to the problem I have with the watch. I am not sure why you are attacking me. I don’t see other people being attacked for asking a question about the microphone not working.

The technician told me it would be $289 to send it for repair and pretty much suggested I buy a refurbished one instead of “Wasting” my money to fix. His words, not mine. I asked a question about a solution to fix it and just stated what I was already told at the Genius Bar. I don’t see that as a complaint.

Again, it seems like you just want to attack someone without cause
