Microsoft word on MacBook

I have a MacBook Pro and have payed for the softwares such as Microsoft word and powerpoint. I have the newest version of 15.13.4 and have already checked for updates but it says everything is up to date. However, anything in word where there is a dropdown arrow, for example colours, highlighters, shapes, tables etc. there is no drop down. This means I cannot get any colours, insert any tables or textbooks, or anything like that, and it has been like this for a while now. Is there any way I can stop this?
