iPhone not receiving SMS and OTPs from my bank

Hi, anyone knows why my iphone7 doesn't receive my bank SMS and OTPs? I've contacted my bank and they confirm they've released the SMS to me. I've contacted my carrier and they advised everything is ok on their end and that it could be my phone. Am stuck and so frustrated because I can't do any online transaction, neither do I get notification on receipt or sending of money to and from my account.

I had this problem. I spoke with my carrier (EE) and they had to change the settings to allow short SMS and third party messages. The settings where restricted (for some reason).

Hi,

Thanks so much for your response. Am OTP is a one time password that the bank sends to me via SMS to enable me verify and complete an online transaction. I have tried both on the App and the USSD, both aren’t helping. I also tried on an android device but SMS didn’t come. The bank confirmed that they released the transaction, i’ve been talking to ma carrier and it seems they’re unable to figure it out, they told me it must be an issue with iPhone;(;(...let me Share your thoughts with them, it will probably help. Thanks!

Okay, now I understand what OTP is, but USSD is puzzling. Remember, not everyone uses the same acronyms. I have several accounts that use this OTP, or as they call it, a verification number to enter to verify your login. They are sent via SMS to my iPhone, and I've not experienced any issues. These include a couple of sites by the US federal government accounts, and one of my credit cards. I don't believe it is fair to say generally this is an issue with the iPhone. I would continue trying to work with the bank and your carrier to determine the address/number the bank is sending this information to. If this is coming from a computer, which is normally is, they may need to verify with the carrier they are addressing this SMS correctly to get to the phone. You may also ask the bank, or any of your friends or co-workers that use the same bank if anyone else is experiencing problems. When you say you attempted this on an Android device supports my determination this is not just an iPhone issue. Good luck working with them.

SMS is a carrier function. There is no setting for SMS on the iPhone. I'm not aware of what an OTP is, so I cannot comment on that. You need to work with your carrier about SMS, or if you have a friend that has an Android device, see if you can get SMS from them. As far as the receipt question, that would have to be addressed with the bank as to how they do that. Is this an app, or are you doing this through a browser?

Thanks. Yes I also figured out it’s not my phone and surely they should not even think of telling me that. I’ve resent the issue to both my carrier & bank to resolve. Hopefully they do, I’ll let you know.

Ps: USSD is ‘unstructured supplementary service data’ it’s is a code that you can use to access a service as an alternative to using their App. E.g. for my bank, I can either log in through the App, or use *654#, input a password and still access the service, it works mostly for those who don’t have a smartphone or at shaving issues with the App, as long as your provider has that option;);)
