I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina (mid-2014) which I am noticing seems to be running VERY hot recently but I do not hear any fans running at all. Is it possible the fans are failing?

It's possible that the fan is no longer working but it might also be the sensor, try installing a manual fan controller download it from this link: https://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control/download an max out the fan speed an see if it will respond
Thank you! I guess it was my imagination -- and a couple of apps I had open that consume a lot. I put the MBP on a cooling stand I have that has fans beneath to help it stay cool. The Diagnostics said the Mac is happy.
