APPLE SCAM

I received the following notice , supposedly from APPLE: " We accepted your payment 'Tasty Town' on June 18 , 2019.

To view your orders, manage or request a cancellation, please download and open attachment in email.

If you have any questions or comments, please visit our support site.

Thank You!"

I clicked on the option to cancel the order because I placed no such order. However, I was then asked for all sorts of personal info, including my social security number. Needless to say, I gave none of the info. ARE YOU AWARE OF A SCAM GOING ON??

Of course Apple is aware of these things. But just what do you expect them to do about a spammer/scammer sending you an email, text, or popup notice?

We see at least a dozen such questions on these forums alone asking if such a message is real. Crooks send these out by the thousands every single day.

As long as you didn't enter any information, you're fine. Other than servers can capture the requesting address for images loaded from their server. Expect to get even more junk now that they can add your email address or phone number to their list, which such crooks sell to each other.

iTunes or App Store email receipts will never, ever include:

  1. Links to cancel an order, or to verify your Apple ID info.
  2. Any kind of attachment.
  3. Spelling or grammar that sounds like it came from someone who just started learning English last week.

These scams have been going on for a log time. If you provided no information then you're OK.

In a message Apple will always address you by your real name, never by your email address or Dear Customer. Also the sent-from address should be @apple.com or @itunes.com Additionally Apple does not send attachments, nor would they ever ask you SS#.
