I can't sign into facetime?

I can't sign into FaceTime on my Mac but it works perfectly fine with the same apple ID on my iPhone. However whenever I try to log into FaceTime on my Mac it comes up with an error message saying "An error occurred during activation. please try again later" please help

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.12
