Fate of iTunes

Sorry. I looked for this assuming there must be a thread on it already but couldn’t find it.

1) I understand itunes’ functions will be preserved in different apps/programs on Mac but the all in one program will be gone. Mac will still have an encrypted backup function?

2) I also understand iTunes will remain an app on windows as it currently is. Will apple be providing updates for iTunes for windows or will they stop servicing it, and thus the program will cease to function properly over a certain period of time.

thanks.

The rumours of the death of iTunes have been somewhat exaggerated. iTunes is staying exactly the same except for those who install the next version of macOS 10.15 Catalina where the functions will be split between three new apps and Finder, the Mac equivalent to Windows Explorer. See About the upcoming changes with iTunes on Mac - Apple Support for details that have been made public so far.

  1. Yes.
  2. iTunes will continue to be supported on Windows.
