Message App / iMessage App badge not working on Macbook

The Message App / iMessage App badge is not working on my Macbook. When I get an iMessage, there is an initial notification on the computer screen, but message app icon itself does not say the total number of new iMessages.

I think they used to, but for some reason, it has stopped. I believe I have everything setup properly in settings. I can see a badge when I receive a message, but no banners. Notification badge on Messages says 1 unread message, but there isn't any On one of my Macs (macOS 13.0), the Messages app shows a notification of "1". However, I see no unread messages. Furthermore, the other devices (another Mac and an iPhone) which share the same iCloud account show zero unread messages. I have tried: Restarting the computer Turning off Messages in iCloud and turning it back on Logging out of iCloud and logging back in

iMessage no longer works after Mac OS 13.2 update iMessage is no longer working properly after the recent Ventura 13.2 update. It's chosen a message to highlight, and when trying to select a different message, it will either pin that one to the top, or attempt to move it off the screen. Moving the arrows up and down doesn't help either.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
