Family sharing - pros and cons

Hi experts,

Wife and I have been using Apple products including iphone and ipads for 10+ years, with a single unique apple id including itunes. The main goal is to share our photos and songs stored on a home MS desktop via itunes. We hardly store/sync anything on icloud.

Will be purchasing a new iphone for wife soon and wondering the pros and cons of letting my wife create her own apple id and make use of the family sharing feature. All those devices are on iOS 11.3.

In general, my wife does not want to be bothered with too many logon id/pwd. And she never makes any purchase on the Apple Music store.

Thank you in advance.

A key consideration is whether you will be managing the two phones from one computer, or two. If it is one then you're probably best to stick to the one Apple ID, at least for purchases from the iTunes and app stores. See Authorization vs. association - Apple Community for some background. Apple's assumption is that you would each have your own independent Apple ID which you would each use for everything Apple related. That way you can run independent contacts, calendars, notes, etc. while using iCloud to sync your devices and computers together. Family sharing would then give each access to the others purchases.
