How can I update my late 2011 MacBook Pro from High Sierra to Mountain Lion?

Hi all,

my boyfriend recently bought me my first MacBook Pro, a late 2011 refurbished one.

It's currently operating on High Sierra 10.13.6, but Id like to update it to a newer version. I looked on the apple store at the download for Mountain Lion, but it said I needed to currently be on Lion in order to install it... and when I looked at lion, it said the same thing about a different OS. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!

MacBook Pro

Your system is already running the latest version of macOS that it can. The only newer version is 10.14 Mojave, but your 2011 MacBook is not able to run it.

Note: Mountain Lion is actually much older (10.8).
