If I copy a numbered list directly from Notes and paste it into Messages the numbering gets lost.
If I first copy/paste it into BBEdit (a plain text editor) the numbers get retained. So I can then copy/paste from BBEdit into Messages.
Is there any way to avoid the intermediate step?

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
Can you tell us how you are creating a numbered list?
I tried typing, e.g.
then pressing enter it placed "2. " automatically and so on, ending up with
I copied and pasted into Messages, and the numbers DID come through... (FWIW, I also tried with BBEdit, which ALSO worked).
Of course it works with BBEdit: it is much more than just a plain texteditor.
