Are iPhone replacement units new or refurbished?

Hi, i have a question that is never answered correctly, does Apple replace your broken with a new iPhone (Without the retail packaging) or they used Refurbished iPhones or they used salvaged parts from other iPhones to assemble he new iPhone, or do they use repaired failed quality control devices?

Hmm...strange. I was also under the same impression which is why I asked and the rep confirmed that it was not remanufactured or refurbished. I even went so far as to ask him if my replacement was water resistant and he said yes. I had taken my prior 8 Plus in the swimming pool on two vacation trips and never had an issue with the water resistant.
