How can i upgrade to new osx

It wont let me upgrade to a newer OSX does it mean that i cant on this mac or do i have to do something to be able to.

I have OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6

iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007

Sorry, your iMac (hardware) cannot update past OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan.

That Mac can't be upgraded past El Capitan.
