Apple Diagnostic Test runs instead of Apple Hardware Test

I have a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro running Mojave. I decided to run Apple Hardware Test to check if anything's wrong, the machine is 7 years old now after all.

To my surprise, I see Apple Diagnostic Test running on my screen.

I thought it was only available on Macs from a time after June 2013?

Could somebody explain why I have access to Apple Diagnostic Test?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

A recent macOS update changed the behavior so that it now loads Apple Diagnostics from the Recovery Partition, instead of the older Apple Hardware Test. That ability may or may not be available on all models.
