iMac (late 2015) very slow startup after Mojave upgrade

Since upgrading from High Sierra to Mojave, the startup is very slow. It gets stuck about half way through the progress bar (under the Apple logo). After about 20 or more minutes, I unplug the power for 15 seconds and restart. I'v brought it up in safe mode once, and that didn't help either.

I have a etrecheck file, but I'm not sure how to attach it here - this is the first time I'm using this forum.

That report does not indicate anything obviously amiss, except for the lack of any Time Machine backup. To learn how to use Time Machine please read Back up your files with Time Machine on Mac.

It is possible the long startup time is due to a hard disk drive that has been operating in a state of failure, but there is no conclusive indication of it. A conclusive indication of hard disk drive failure might manifest in the sudden inability to start the Mac at all, so if you value the information on that Mac be sure to create a backup—ideally, more than one.

If it's taking your Mac a long time to start up after being shut down, an NVRAM Reset is justified: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support.

It's not required to routinely shut down a Mac anyway. They work best if you just let them sleep according to Energy Saver settings: Use the Energy Saver settings on your Mac - Apple Support.
