Chilltab extension keeps self-installing in Safari, despite having removed it.
I can't find any trustable source via Google Search advising on how to eradicate the problem.
Is there any Apple recommended software to get rid of the malware?

I would try Malwarebytes first. If necessary, follow the manual instructions. Please do not download any other programs that are listed in the articles.
Of all of the remedies I've tried, DetectX Swift will remove the ChillTab duplicates, but doesn't prevent the virus from popping up again.
ComboCleaner will identify the virus, but it demands a paid upgrade to Premium to quarantine or remove the virus.
Malwarebytes was the only program that completely eliminated the ChillTab virus from my system (I also reinstalled my base operating system, but that didn't help completely). It might even be worth the $40 annual subscription to keep it away, but I'm still on the fence about that.
Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.

You can reuse the copy of Malwarebytes that you have or download a new copy if needed.
