Contacts out of control!!

Please help me!? I only have 79 actual contacts however my new iPhone 8 I bought a few months ago suddenly began stating that I have over 9,000 “contacts” when they are literally insane amount of duplicates of my 79. I have asked apple and at&t but have only been more frustrated due to their lack of professionalism, knowledge, and sense of customer service. I am a disabled combat veteran with extreme difficulty with technology and especially organization with the technology that I have. This issue is robbing my storage and memory on all my devices and is honestly not helping my health at all. I have tried everything and without any help from the professionals I even was prepared to purchase a whole new phone but they were going to charge me for ridiculous reasons and I had literally just bought the new phone through them. So please if anyone can please help me! Thank you very much.

Hello, there are a few things I want you to do and try. The first is to go to iCloud.com and see how many contacts are there. If the contacts there are correct, then go back to the phone and go to settings>contacts>default account - make sure this is set to iCloud. If the contacts there are not correct it is easier to delete the extras quicker there. Next Once you get the ones at iCloud.com correct, go to settings>Apple ID(your name at the top)>iCloud>turn contacts off and when the warning pops up, erase from device. Next, restart the phone. Now go back into settings>Apple ID>iCloud>contacts - turn them on and if it asks to merge you should be able to but since you chose to erase the contacts there may be nothing to merge. Your contacts should be fixed now.
