iPhone xs no carrier. Stuck on "verifying update"

My iPhone xs says "no carrier" and won't allow me to access my cellular data option. it says "Error" and that I need to update to access that information (currently running 12.2.1). But when I try to update it, it gets stuck on "verifying update" and won't go into the updating itself. I've tried connecting it to my MacBook but it won't allow me to access my phone even with the correct code and everything.

So my question is this, what do I do next? Take it to the apple store or try another home remedy?
