I'm trying to add my Gmail account to Mail in OSX and in iOS and both cannot accept app specific password because the apps are now opening the login directly in Safari... Why did they change the authentification process? It is now impossible to use app specific password.

Hi, I'm sorry there was a mix up on my part. I normally used app specific password when the services didn't support the 2 factor authentification. Must be that in the last update they update Mail to support 2FA without me noticing.

Could you clarify what you mean by an "app specific password"? One's Gmail password would be the same for the same account no matter what app one uses.
