Deleting an aol account from my iPad

I just bought a 6th generation iPad and used my apple account to set up the iPad. There are now both my aol account as well as my wife's on the new iPad. I want to delete one of them. I followed the instructions, and when I get to the "accounts and passwords" to delete the account only one account shows up (not the one I want to delete). When I click on mail, the mail comes up for the account I am trying to delete. ??????
