Camcorder for iMovie 10.1.12

I have iMovie both versions 10.1.12 and '09. Using MacOS 10.14.5.

I have a Sony DCR-SX85 camcorder. This combination does not seem to work.

Apple has a list of iMovie-compatible camcorders, but it is very tedious to

figure out which are still manufactured and reasonably priced.

Question is, what is a good camcorder compatible with my iMovie, for under $200,

major brand, and storage using internal memory.

The question of what is a good major brand camcorder for iMovie for under $200 is one that you would need to research for yourself. Google "best camcorders under $200" and then check which ones appear on Apple's list of supported iMovie camcorders.

You want a region NTSC camcorder that records to an SD card and records in H.264 format. Mp4/AAC, .dv, or AVCHD formats work.

The "under $200" requirement restricts your list considerably, unless you buy used. I have seen on Amaxon a new Canon Vixia HF-R82 camcorder ($299.00) and a Panasonic HC-V180 camcorder ($219.95). Both of those are on Apple's current supported cameras list.

As I said, you will need to check out these cameras yourself, and their specs, to determine which best suits your needs. Then pick one that is on Apple's supported cameras list.

Good luck with your pursuit.
