Why am I unable to pair my Apple Watch 3 with MacBook Pro running HighSierra?

I have followed all the standard instructions but unable to pair and unlock the MacBook with the Apple Watch.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

Problem is you can’t pair an Apple Watch to a MacBook. It is MANDATORY that you pair an Apple Watch to an iPhone.
