I purchased a new phone today. In the store they said they would transfer contacts and photos however it seems my photos have vanished and are not on the cloud. Can I retrieve them please?

In your old device it could be your iPhone or Mac did the photos box was checked and it was checked the photos would have saved on the iCloud server , if in any case it was not , photos will never sync / saved .

You can check, if your photos and videos are still in iCloud, if you open your iCloud web page on a computer. Open www.icloud.com, sign in with your iCloud AppleiD, then open the Photos.app there. Are your photos still in iCloud?
If nt, you need to recover them from your old iPhone, if you still have it.
It seems my photos and videos have been deleted from the icloud. Can I retrive them
