Why do my photos on iCloud occupy 39,29GB when the exact same photos only occupy 2,73GB on my phone? My iCloud is almost full it says - but I shoud have plenty of space.

It sounds to me like your iPhone is running out of storage. How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support explains how you can check the storage on your device.


You also seem to be using Optimize Storage on your iPhone: iCloud: Optimize storage on devices for iCloud Photos explains what that means.
