Finder uses too much memory 42GB!!!

Hi.

At times, the performance of my macOS is terribly bad. It makes me to restart my computer, close my applications while I'm working. I spent a lot of money to have something that works well for me, but I'm experiencing bad things with Apple recently. I feel Apple trying to make me by a new product which I don't have money. I can show Apple my bank account. I expect Apple helps me to fix this big issue.

Finder, Kernel_task, WindowServer, and SpokesUpdateService are using my ram and cpu as much as they like. I do not understand that. and on the internet people say many things to fix that which I can relay on to fix my computer. I need help from who has a great knowledge and experience to fix this problem.

Thank you

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS 10.13

The key is that any plists mentioned right after Clean up: are always a problem & generally are set to ask for some RAM to be set aside, tries to launch a no longer existing App, (like an App was dragged to the Trash when it needed a proper uninstall, etrecheck, or FindAnyFile to get rid of unseen parts), then it fails & in a loop asks for some RAM to be set aside again ad infinitum.

So, any plists after Clean up: need trashing & a Restart. :)

From Shirazigs report...

Clean up:

    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer.plist

        /Applications/TeamViewer.app/Contents/MacOS/TeamViewer

        Executable not found

    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_desktop.plist

        /Applications/TeamViewer.app/Contents/Helpers/TeamViewer_Desktop

        Executable not found

    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.brother.LOGINserver.plist

        /Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/Server/LOGINserver.app/Contents/MacOS/LOGINserver

        Executable not found

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

Try going into Safe Boot Mode by holding the SHIFT key for 30 seconds when you first power-on the Mac from a full shutdown. I would be curious if it happens there or not (hopefully not). Then restart normally and see if it still happens. Going into Safe Boot will clean up a lot of cache that maybe (?) is related to the problem.

You could also go into Disk Utility App while you are in Safe Boot and run a First Aid scan on your drive for good measure.

Delete the fake  o1dbrowserplugin: which imitated the real  oldbrowserplugin:

Delete these files & Restart...

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer.plist

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_desktop.plist

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.brother.LOGINserver.plist

Those are failing because they can't find deleted files & are eating up your Resources, especially CPU & RAM which is slowing your Mac more & More over time. :)

Thanks BDAqua.

After deleting those files, Finder using less memory than before... since last night Finder hasn't used more than 1.1GB. That was a huge help. Thank you.

I keep watching Activity Monitor to see if something weird happens.

I keep posting what happens at list for about a week or weeks. I think this will help other users too. :)

Nothing obvious to me.

Did you upgrade the version of macOS recently? Some extensions could be out of date if you did.

Try a safe boot.

Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  The boot up will take longer than normal because the filesystem on the startup drive is being checked and repaired as needed.   All about safe mode including what features and apps safe boot leaves out.  Safe boot uses a software driver instead of using your machines video hardware.

I'd be interesting in seeing cpu utilization when running slow.
