Lost photos after changing Apple ID

Recently I logged into an old Apple ID to view some older photos on my iCloud, I couldn’t remember the password and my trusted phone number was no longer in use so I used my iPad Air 2 to try to change the password. I then logged back into my current Apple ID on my iPad but when I’ve have checked all of my photos taken on my iPad have disappeared, is there anyway I can get these photos back??

iPad, iOS 12

If I am understanding what happened, log back in with the old ID. Make sure the data you want is there. Then change to the new ID. There may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. Also set up Family Sharing to keep access to your apps/purchases. Also see Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion
