Can i delete the InstallESD.dmg file?

I have this file added to my trash, but I can't empty this item in my trash. When I try I get the message "InstallESD.dmg" can't be modified or deleted because it's required by mac OS. Then I get a choice Skip, Stop, and Continue. Continue just closes out the message. It's taking up about 4gb of space. This was a post awhile back, but the topic just ended with no resolution. Anybody have any suggestions on how to get rid of it for good?
