Junk folder greyed out with 'x' on iPhone and iPad for AOL

I used to be able to move spam mail from my inbox to JUNK. Now the JUNK folder is greyed out and there is an 'x' on it and mail cannot be moved there. What changed?

iPhone 6s, iOS 12

As far as my knowledge goes Junk is not a default folder on AOL, it is Spam.

If you have created a Junk Folder then you need to set Rules to move it the folder.

That's true for the desktop/laptop version but not for the iPhone mail app which has a Junk folder (no Spam folder), which "suddenly" turned grey and doesn't allow moving files into it from the inbox.
