My iPhone 6S plus is just one year old and the Gyro sensor seems to be not working. As I turn my phone sideways the display does not turn.
I can’t be sure, but the problem seemed to start after the last software update. Or did I accidentally switch something off?

Is it locked in portrait mode?
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and look in Control Center for an icon of a lock with a circle around it. Tap on it, then try rotating your screen again.
