If your friend was the original purchaser of the iPad and can prove it

with receipt from Apple or Apple authorized iPad retailer showing

the serial number of the iPad, your friend can take that proof along

with the iPad and government issued photo ID to the nearest Apple

store where they may assist. A genius bar appointment is highly

recommended to avoid delay at the store.

If your friend was not the original purchaser or cannot prove it or

cannot recover the Apple ID and passcode used to initiate the

Activation Lock, the iPad will remain useless. There is no workaround

for the security features of Activation Lock.
