Apple ipod 30 gb model number A1136

Should the apple symbol show up on the screen when i put it on the dock to charge if it hasn't been charged for months

Yes. If it has not been charged for very long, it will take a while for it to have enough charge to boot up. While that happens the Apple Logo is a normal thing to see onscreen.

Give that iPod, at least, 24 hours to show the Apple logo and start charging up.

The battery maybe really flat and needs time to get up to charging status
