Localhost not present

Hi


It seems my 'Localhost' is not present on my iMac. On my macbook it works fine. I find several 'solutions' online but none seem to apply. Apache seems to be fine and have no errors.


Ping local host -> Unknown host

Safari -> Host unknown.

By default the built-in webserver is not running, so it is no surprise that Safari cannot reach the localhost server.

You can easily turn it on, and get the default page in Safari: in the Terminal, type


sudo apachectl start


You will be asked for your password. Type it blindly (nothing will appear as you type; that is normal), and press enter.

Then in Safari you will see that it is working:
