Keyboard View Not Showing

Hi guys, I really hope you can help. I'm running Mojave 10.14.5 on a MacBook Pro and while using InDesign I need to source a character, I went to 'Show Keyboard Viewer' in the menu bar shortcut but the keyboard doesn't appear on screen when selected and the option in the menu bar shortcut now says 'Hide keyboard viewer' as if it is being displayed. I have closed all applications, rebooted the machine and even relaunched the finder but still nothing. Is there a way of perhaps 'resetting' the Keyboard Viewer? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Try resetting NVRAM.

You can also try booting in Safe Mode then booting normally.
