I have a MacBookPro 2011 Model that I use 99 percent of the time plugged into household current. I was using it the other day on the internet and had to step out of the room for maybe three or four minutes. When I returned the screen was white with nothing = not even a cursor arror. I tried hitting various keys on the keyboard to see if I could bring anything up but no luck. I then tried a hard shutdown by holding the power button down and then restarting. The screen came back up white with a red apple logo and a red progress bar underneath. The logo is usually black and the progress bar is also black. The progress bar slowly moved over about 3/4 of the way and then stopped. After about 3 minutes it tried to restart again and went through the same sequence again. It tried to restart two more times after that and then the screen went to all white and stopped doing anything.  I have tried using the OSX install disc as a startup disc but I was unable to get that to work. Holding down the "D" key brought up a spinning globe that said starting internet recovery (this may take awhile). I didn't know what that was so I stopped it  and decided to ask for help.

Restart the computer while holding Command R to restart in the Recovery Partition or Command Option R to restart in Internet Recover. Assuming either of those options work, immediately select the Disk Utility option and run Disk First Aid. If the drive checks out ok or if it repaired successfully, quit Disk Utility and select the option to download the operating system. If all this fails, make an appointment to see the Apple Genius or take it to an Apple Authorized Service center.
