I plan to buy a 2nd hand iPad and was wondering is it possible to buy AppleCare (or AppleCare+) plus to cover it? The device is still within its Apple 1 year limited warranty. I currently don't have AppleCare for any of my Apple products.

You may want to consider buying a refurbished iPad from Apple directly, which will come with a one year warranty AND be eligible for AppleCare+.

thanks for the reply. So if i'm right the only way to cover myself would be to take third party insurance?
The standard, free one-year AppleCare warranty does NOT cover ANY accidental or incidental damage by the users, such as cracked or damaged screens, damaged case, etc..
If the device was originally purchased more than 60 days ago, yes. You would need to purchase a 3rd party warranty. I still recommend you look at the refurbished devices Apple sells directly.
