Apple Watch not honoring hide alerts on group texts

Hello,

I, like many others, am facing an annoying problem where my apple watch will not honor the 'hide alerts' option in a group text. I tried restarting both devices, turning notifications on-off, hide alerts on and off and so on but nothing worked. One thread mentioned un-pair and re-pair. I tried doing so and it worked for an existing group. I was happy. A few weeks passed and a new group shows up that needs hide alerts, problem persists. I can't un-pair and re-pair my watch every time a new group text shows up. Any solutions out there? Apple, are you planning to fix this? It has been a problem for a couple of years now.
