Thanks. I guess what is now more concerning is trusting my work IT having access to my ipad and contents - at least that is the warning i am getting if i say trust! Thanks for getting me to the right spot in settings
You are granting them certain rights with a MDM certificate. They can for instance require a screen lock passcode, restrict the time out and settings for screen locking, and disable backups or require encrypted iTunes backups. Those sorts of things are pretty standard when you use a personal device for company apps or email accounts as they have the right to enforce security settings if your device will now contain company data.
Does your company have an IT policy document, that outlines what they are requiring and such? They would rarely be collecting any data on you, your device or what you do with it though. Some companies may collect location information though, if they have people who are mobile as part of their job, but most would say so in their personal or company device IT policy.
