Question

Cant sent messages from my mac

I am able to receive messages and used to be able to send messages but it just stopped working. I have logged out of my account and back in but I always get a message "Not Delivered"

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.13

Alright...

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

Enter the part after the @sign in the search bar.

You may have duplicate or more entries in Keychain Access.

If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but likely old passwords interfering.

There''ll be at least 2 entries, maybe more.

The trouble is that Mac Mail almost always chooses the old Passwords if you don't change or get rid of the old ones.

Oh, not Mail Messages, but Messages in Messages!

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

Do you have a Time Machine backup you can restore from?

In Mail>Window>Connection Doctor, what does that report?

Did you check your messages menu -> preferences to see if it is an active account?

ok i created a new account and logged into messages and was able to send a message

I am a bit confused as to what password i am to delete and or change. I went into keychain > passwords > ids: message-protection-public-data-registered. It would not let me do anything in the "Attributes" tab even though i gave it my keychain password and under the "Access Control" tab i deleted the "Message" entry. I logout out of message and logged back in and still does not work. I deleted the "ids: message-protection-public-data-registered" entry completely and logged out and back in and still won't send.

In the keychain there is only one entry with the word "message" in it.

i am lost at what webmail has to do with this and I am unsure what you suggest I do with that. I don't use webmail i use mac email.

i did all that is required, checked my iCloud account, logged off and on. check my message pref on my phone to make sure it allowed for messaging using my mac.
