Accidental damage coverage

Son dropped his XR in the pool. Apple don't help you with that even though it was an accident. Why wouldn't it be considered accidental coverage? Is there anything i can do?

If liquid damages an iPhone or iPod (for example, coffee or a soft drink), the service for the liquid damage isn't covered by the Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty.

Water and other liquid damage to iPhone or iPod isn't covered by warranty - Apple Support

If you purchased one of the AppleCare+ plans, then it can be counted as one of your two incidents.

That said, Apple does not repair liquid damaged phones, so you're looking at either $99 with AppleCare+, or $399 for an out-of-warranty replacement.
