new iPhone XR

I have a new iPhone XR and am trying to restore from iCloud...but I initially get a 1-day time estimate and after letting it restore all night, I woke to an error message saying phone could not restore from iCloud. Please help.

Was the backup made using a device that was running a newer IOS?

Backup couldn’t be completed or you can’t restore
