iPhone back up gets stuck

When trying to back up my iPhone to my PC it gets stuck at step 2 “backing up” and doesn’t progress. I have to force iTunes to close after attempting to back up.

Reboot your router, computer, and device, then try again. If the problem persists see if you can back up to iCloud instead.
